A night of paranging from house to house could come with an important decision: where to eat.

For soca parang artiste Havatyme, those Christmas memories include plenty of music, good company and the occasional meal that was a little too salty. It is the kind of familiar experience that sits comfortably alongside the humour in his new song, “No Salt.”

“Years gone by when paranging house to house boy not everyone coulda cook so certain house everything was salty so we had to decide where we eating,” he recalls.

In “No Salt,” Havatyme takes a playful stand on salty Christmas favourites like ham and saltfish. His message is simple: “Yuh could cook and prepare a meal without using salt.”

One line puts it even more directly: “If yuh want meh eat, yuh go have to wash it out.”

The idea has already brought some playful disagreement. Havatyme says he finds it funny that “all the ladies already saying that a little salt is good for yuh.”

Beyond the jokes, Christmas remains a special time for the artiste. He speaks fondly of children looking forward to their gifts and the joy parents share as they watch them open them.

“Christmas will always be memorable to me because it's a celebration like no other,” he says.

For Havatyme, soca parang and the festivities go hand in hand, and he enjoys contributing his own talent to the art form. With “No Salt,” he brings another helping of humour to the season and a topic that might start a lively conversation around the Christmas table.
